Living Below the Line - Day 1

Committed myself to a club project called "Living Below the Line". The main objective of this project is to create awareness on poverty around the world. There are people around the world who are surviving with USD$2 (approximately RM6) for meals everyday. Hence, right now we will be working in with that budget for our daily meals for one week. Myself, I will be doing so for 4 days, 3-6 of May.

Breakfast :

Jacob Oatmeal (2 pieces) + Own Milo Kosong = RM1.00

(Usual breakfast at work)

Lunch :

Fried Meehoon with Vegetables = RM2.00

(My manager was such a sport, asking me to just have meehoon for lunch, don't take anything else or it would exceed my budget. But then the uncle was nice, to only charge me RM2.00 for lunch.)

Dinner :

Nasi lemak with Otak-otak and Lime water = RM3.00

(I actually asked the Abang on the price of every item, how much is this, how much is that, what is the cheapest drink in the menu, is there any drinks which cost RM1? I think he would probably be thinking what a bunch of cheapo.. =P Sorry to drag you guys down along Khoo and Dek.. ^^'')

After Day One, it's feels like a wake up call on what a luxurious life I am living before this. We have our daily meals to satisfy our hunger. There are a huge range of food selections, especially in Malaysia, yet we go for those which are priced more towards the upper ends. With RM6 per day for all meals, yes, we can barely survive with a balance and healthy diet, but then how much does our usual meal cost? On average, above RM5 per meal, depending on which cuisine we go for. And yet we still manage to complaint on how bad the food was, what kind of service should be provided, you name it.

So, after Day One, learnt to be thankful for all the blessing that is provided, and cherish every bite of food you have. Try not to complaint that much, and life would turn out a bit more cheerful. =)
